Suzanne and Florie’s brief moments at the beginning of each episode have kept me pleased and coming back for more each week. Instead of teasing the viewers each episode with three or four minutes of content, it could have been interwoven differently, allowing them to spend more time on Suzanne and Florie. I will die on the hill that Mayfair Witches should have dedicated an entire episode solely to Lasher’s origin story. The series has spent a remarkable amount of time building a concrete foundation to rely on with their world-building. This deep dive into the origin story makes “Transference” one of the season’s best episodes so far. But after waiting for nearly the entire season, we’re finally provided with the particulars of Lasher’s creation. Piece by piece, week by week, Mayfair Witches has delivered slivers of the whole story in three-minute increments. The pinnacle of the episode is the telling of Lasher’s origin story. Thanks to this level-headed, personable conversation, Cortland begins acting like a caring individual and works to help Rowan get what she desires. However, when she compares his ALS diagnosis to her unfortunate connection with Lasher, he finally understands her level of spite. Until now, Cortland has been working silently to ensure Lasher has full access to Rowan.

Rowan’s drive to rid herself of Lasher proves successful when she visits Cortland and can relate to him on a personal level. Unlike previous episodes, “Transference” delivers the action and background knowledge we’ve sought all season long. Rowan and the rest of the fellow Mayfair witches conduct a dangerous ritual on Mayfair Witches Season 1 Episode 6, “Transference.”
